Nat "King" Cole
This is a lovely collection featuring the seductive, smoky delivery of the great
vocalist, including, along with the title Cole Porter song, "Who's Sorry Now?",

Magic: 1950s" includes numbers from such Tony Award winners as "South Pacific,"

"Gypsy"
Original Cast Recording
"Gypsy"--considered by many to be the last great musical comedy--produced more
than its share of Broadway standards, including "Everything's Coming Up Roses,"
"Small World," "Some People," "If Momma Was Married," "Together Wherever We Go,"
and the climactic "Rose's Turn." The show was written for Ethel Merman, and she
remains the definitive stage mother.

CAN'T-MISS CLASSICS
"Sweet Charity"
Original Cast Recording
This collaboration between Bob Fosse, Neil Simon, Cy Coleman, and Dorothy Fields
proved that fantasies about hookers with hearts of gold could provide mainstream
entertainment years before Julia Roberts became "Pretty Woman." The original
cast recording, starring Gwen Verdon (Fosse's wife at the time), includes the
show's two best-known numbers: "Big Spender" and "If My Friends Could See Me
Now."

"No, No, Nanette"
Various Artists
A hit 1970 production of the original 1925 show, "No, No, Nanette" was a
harbinger of the Broadway-revival craze that is currently in full flower. The
show got great marquee value from tap-dancing star Ruby Keeler, as she appeared
in her first Broadway show since 1940. The revival scored four Tony Awards and
ended up running twice as long as the original. What sounded campy in the early
'70s may sound slightly dated in our more irony-filled times; nevertheless, you
can't go wrong with the three great standards that came from the Vincent
Youmans/Irving Caesar score--"Too Many Rings Around Rosie," "I Want to Be
Happy," and "Tea for Two."

"I Left My Heart in San Francisco"
Tony Bennett
A hit album capturing Tony Bennett at the peak of his popularity, and at a
super-budget price--hard to pass up. Along with his signature anthem and
unforgettable tribute to the city by the bay, this collection includes "Once
Upon a Time"--an especially lovely ballad from a forgotten Broadway show--and,
for variety, a big-band Latin treatment of Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" and a
few brassy up-tempo numbers.

FORGOTTEN GEM
"Flower Drum Song"
Original Cast Recording
Since it opened in 1958, "Flower Drum Song" has dated more obviously than the
canonical Rodgers & Hammerstein shows, especially due to its representation of a
bygone San Francisco Chinatown culture. Nevertheless, the original cast
recording (starring Miyoshi Umeki and Ed Kenney) contains some delightful,
graceful songs that deserve to be (re)discovered by fans of the team's better-known work.
